The Australian Cypress is the most important indigenous softwood species in Australia. It produces a timber that is harder than other exotic softwoods and boasts outstanding attributes of its unique figure, durability and termite resistance.

TERMITE RESISTANCE
Natural chemical components within the timber (mainly guaiol and callitrol) make the Australian Cypress virtually termite proof. In most parts of Australia, termite damage is the most prevalent and difficult to detect causes of damage to domestic and commercial structures and their contents. Termites will eat, or eat through, virtually anything, even concrete; but when faced with a choice between Australian White Cypress or something else, the termite will nearly always take the alternative.
  DURABILITY
Australian Cypress is rated Durability Class 1, making it one of Australia's most durable timbers. Australian Cypress has similar strength properties to Radiata Pine, with a heartwood that is highly resistant to decay and has a very minimal natural shrinkage.
 FINISH & APPEARANCE
One of the most versatile native timbers around, Australian White Cypress is highly regarded, not only as a structural, but also as a decorative timber. The timber is straight grained with a very fine even texture. Its colour ranges from almost white in the sapwood through to a golden honey colour to streaks of dark brown. Attractive figure and tight knots are a feature of the species.
PRESERVATIVE TREATMENTS
Because Australian Cypress posts are a natural product and do not need to be treated with chemicals, there are fewer problems with toxic or cacinogenic compounds being released when working the posts, eg. cutting, boring of holes etc. In fact, there are currently no preservatives available that could enhance the already high natural durability of Australian White Cypress.
